Replacement of an existing Evaporator Unit with a new larger unit.
Two new structural steel platform levels were added over the existing
steel braced structure to support the new evaporator unit and provide
access. Various components of the existing structural steel braced
structure were reinforced to resist the additional loading while
other areas required rework to suit the new evaporator. Reinforcing
of the piled foundations was required to resist the larger overturning
forces.
A new stainless steel vapour duct was designed and routed to suit
existing equipment, structures and pipe supports. All service piping,
instrumentation and controls were added to the new evaporator as
required to suit existing conditions while improving component access.
Water and foam fire protection system was also added.
All work on this project was designed and detailed to be completed
during a short plant shutdown period in a hot-work prohibitive environment.
