Aluminum Castings Plant and Process Upgrades

Projects for this client include:

• Ventilation study which reviewed the existing building and equipment and a third party environmental assessment report to establish final air flows for existing local exhaust and general exhaust being refurbished and re-used. A report included recommendations for improvements to the plant environment via additional make-up air systems along with economic analysis of operating costs for various options.
• The study above lead to a two-phase installation of a series of large indirect gas-fired tempered make-up air units with associated ductwork, electrical and structural requirements. Atkinson Engineering Inc. work included preparation of detailed working drawings and technical specifications for the purpose of tendering the construction work, post-design services and shop drawing review including Ministry of Labour application, building permit drawings for submittal by Owner, tendering and bid review, and site inspections during construction to the completion of installation.
• Upgrades to the two die-casting machine cooling water systems in two phases. The work included replacement of existing circulating pumps and in-trench supply piping with new pumps and an overhead supply piping system. Atkinson Engineering Inc. work included preparation of detailed working drawings and technical specifications for the purpose of tendering the construction work, post-design services and shop drawing review, building permit drawings for submittal by Owner, tendering and bid review, and site inspections during construction to the completion of installation.
• New Waste Water Treatment Facility installation engineering. Atkinson Engineering Inc. provided all layout and detail drawings and specifications for the installation of pre-purchased wastewater treatment system equipment and included selection of additional fluid transfer pumps, sumps and containment dykes, interconnecting piping, power and control wiring.
• Miscellaneous engineering includes monorail and ladle transfer lift beam structural analysis, structural modifications, steam cleaner room pre-development review and modifications, die-casting machine safety bar designs, die-casting machine foundations and building structural condition review and report.
