The expansion programme consisted of the following phases:
Addition to the John Hodgins Engineering Building
Four storey, 60,000 sq. ft. building housing research and teaching
laboratories, classrooms, and offices. The laboratory facility contains
over 32 fume hoods, laminar flow hoods, clean rooms, furnaces, extruders,
reactors, and other laboratory equipment requiring controlled environment
and local exhaust. All fume hoods include a variable volume fume
hood exhaust system with variable frequency drives initiated by
a sash position sensor. The laboratory controls are integrated with
a main building variable air volume system incorporating variable
speed control drives, air flow control valves, and air volume control
terminals. The facility included ten different engineering and science
departments and user groups each with specific space and utility
requirements.
Renovations to the John Hodgins Engineering Building
Major renovations throughout an existing three-storey teaching
and research building providing new laboratories, lounges, offices,
and conference rooms. Project included new mechanical room penthouse
and shaft-ways, air handling systems, and various utilities.
