Feasibility And Conceptual Studies
Atkinson Engineering Inc. is often involved at the important conceptual
stage of project planning. We have helped with conceptual layouts,
spatial requirements, feasibility studies, use and occupancy reviews,
and budget cost estimating for project funding.
Projects have included:
McMaster University - A.N. Bourns Electron Microscopy Facility
Proposal - Conceptual design and cost estimate for alterations
to house new Electron Microscopy equipment including a Geodesic
Dome and support facilities for CFI funding application.
McMaster University - CFI Proposal for Addition to A.N. Bourns
Building - Conceptual design of a new addition for an Origins
Institute housing a visualization room, display area, research and
grad offices and lecture space. Report included detailed cost estimate
for CFI funding application.
McMaster University - CFI Proposal for Tandem Accelerator Cyclotron
and Wet Lab - Schematic design and cost estimate for CFI funding
application to renovate the building for a new cyclotron research
unit and a wet laboratory packaged room.
McMaster University - CFI Proposal for CRL Renovations -
Conceptual design for renovations to the Communications Research
Building to house a microfabrication clean lab facility, adaptive
systems group and microelectronics research facility with cost estimate
for CFI funding application.
McMaster University - A.N. Bourns Undergraduate Chemistry Facility
Preliminary Design - Schematic design to prepare budget costs
and systems layout for the major renovation project.
McMaster University - A.N. Bourns Chemistry Research Wing Addition
- Preliminary Design and Funding - Conceptual design and cost
estimating to prepare budgets and set systems layout for Superbuild
Funding and project approval.
McMaster University - Information Technology Centre (T16 Building
Renovation) - Preliminary Design - Schematic Design and document
preparation for submission to a third party cost estimator for budget
approval
McMaster University Centre - Schematic Design - Preliminary
design and documentation for submission and review with third party
cost estimators to budget for the new facility.
McMaster University Centre - Site 'D' Evaluation Study
- Field investigation, measurements and analysis of the existing
campus emergency power grid. Recommendations included alterations
and upgrades to the infrastructure and sizing of new emergency generator
equipment for existing and projected future loads along with cost
estimates.
McMaster University Centre Study - Conceptual engineering
for building structure and service requirements for housing the
new student centre in an existing building.
McMaster University - Science and Engineering Expansion Space
Study - Major space allocation study for School of Geology and
Geography, Math Department, Computing & Software, and Chemistry
Department, for relocation and consolidation of departments. Report
included present and future department requirements, budget costing
and scheduling.
Chedoke Hospital - Report on Southam Building - Evaluation
of an existing building for conformance with Ontario Building Code
and for consideration for future use as a Group D Business and Personal
Services type occupancy. Report included recommendations for upgrades
and modifications.
Chedoke Hospital - Proposed New Building Study - A feasibility
study of a new 700 sq. m building to house the Children's Development
Rehabilitation Program, Technology Access Department, and the Credit
Union. Study included conceptual floor plans, building arrangements,
and cost estimating.
Hamilton General Hospital - Animal Research Building Study
- Feasibility study of new building to house animal research
facilities for medical purposes, including space planning and preparation
of conceptual plan.
Innovative Construction and Development Corporation - New
Office Building Conceptual Study - Responsibilities involved
review of zoning and the conceptual development of a new $6 Million
office complex on the property.
Hamilton-Wentworth Roman Catholic Separate School Board - Portable
Classroom Study - A study of all 132 portable classrooms throughout
the region to investigate and document their condition, required
repairs and assess their average life.
